I have been wanting to see what people think of the new Son of Beast, but haven't been able to find any reviews. How have people liked the Gerslauer trains and no loop?

[Cue sounds of crickets chirping and the mournful hooting of an owl] What? Isn't everybody scrambling to Kings Island to experience the rebirth of the demon spawn?

King Yoshi, you should have asked whether Grandson of Beast will count as a new credit. That should spark some lively debate.

I guess I'll give it a try when I get out there in 4 weeks if the lines are not ridiculous.

I'll probably not have a chance to ride it for a long time, but based on what it looks like, I'll say people are going to hate it more because of the loop being the only smooth part out of the whole 7032 feet of wooden track. Now it'll be one huge rough mess.

Do you think the ride would be smooth with GCI Millenium Flyers if they were put on the ride?

^ I'm not sure Flyers would work because of the gauge of SOB's tracks. It obviously doesn't have a very intricate layout, so I don't really think they would be the ideal train for it anyway. Still, if the Flyers could be made to work, they probably would deliver a smoother ride.

A reliable friend of mine who has ridden SOB 2.0 claims it's a lot smoother now. But, the G-trains haven't had time to chew up the track yet. Heck, they only had it operating for a few days before they took it back down again. What a joke!

I'm sure I'll get on it before the season is done. Though I rarely go to Kings Island anymore, even though it is ostensibly my home park. KI is so wanting for an awesome coaster, but I think that is pretty much never going to happen.

That's some good news that at least someone thinks that the Son of Beast is smoother.

SOB was closed Sunday the 29th when I was at KI for a twilight trip. Unless they were running invisible trains. It was sad seeing that mass of lifeless mass of wood from park's other lifts. Even if SOB's rep was less than stellar. Ah well...

I've had the same kind of feeling about a coaster being closed when I have visited a park. I visited King's Dominion last year during the time that Flight of Fear was down. However, I had heard much better things about Flight of Fear compared to Son of Beast.

^I was mad at FOF being down too, but FOF is a clone several times over, so it really was no big deal. If I go to KI, and miss out on one of the most infamous wood coasters in history, I would be outraged!! Which is why I am glad that I actually didn't make the 10 hour treck to Cincy this year.

This was an interesting post. I am curious as to why the Flyers are only ideal for a track with an "intracate layout."

^ My point was that the highly-articulated MFs were obviously designed to negotiate the twisty, serpentine layouts and quick directional changes that are the hallmarks of GCI coasters. SOB's layout, in comparison, is very basic. It just doesn't seem that it would play to the MFs strengths. These are just subjective impressions, mind you, and are not based on anything approaching engineering, physics, etc.

Son of Beast sucks. Nothing better than taking the worst trains on earth from one of the worst woodies on earth and putting them on an even crappier woodie.

It was funny how when you went through the former loop you could smell the fresh-cut wood still

I got my SOB 2.0 ride about a month ago, and had to wait a good while to get it. Meh, it still sucks. I didn't feel overly damaged when I got off, but I failed to see any reason to want to get back on.

Every time I see SOB I sigh at the thought that a perfectly good hypercoaster could be sitting in its place. Same amount of capital and the same amount of space.

I rode the new SOB ride about a month ago and I enjoyed myself a lot more than I did on the old version 2 years ago. Although the line was long, I found that on the day that I rode it I enjoyed the ride it gave as much as the Beast, itself. The Beast though was running a lot worse than I remember it running 2 years ago. On the 1 ride I had on the new SOB, I would give it either a 7 or 8 rating.

I went in July when it (SOB 2) first reopened and it was awesome! I can't wait to ride it again.
