We all know that Knoebel's new 2007 coaster will be the Flying Turns, the first ride of its kind which hasn't been attempted to construct in over thirty years. It'll be really interesting considering that it'll be one of a kind & the ride will bring back great memories for older thrillseekers. Since the Flying Turns coaster's making a comeback, what type of coaster do ya'll wish will make a comeback next? I'd like to see another side friction coaster (even though that'll never happen) because the history it'd bring would be remarkable & the fact that Leap-the-Dips is one of the most popular roller coasters in the world because of everything it's been through. I know that they can't go very fast or else the train will just fly off the track, but wouldn't it be interesting to see another coaster like this that can basically run wild without any computerized technology being controlled for the ride?

I want the old way--L.A. Thompson switchback railways. They do look gentle, but I can imagine modern folks taking a ride down the small dips. And maybe the ice slides, if they count. I know they were dangerous, but I'd like a safe version. It'll never come will it?

I don't think coasters will ever go old-skool. They are developing and evolving. Coaster companies are not looking back.

I'm with Hurc on these ones. There is a reason why those coasters haven't been made in years. and The flying turns was merely upgraded from Wood to Steel and fiberglass. Why Build a Side Friction coaster when you can build a better family coaster for less money(nothing custom). Keep in mind the Possible future maintenance problems.

I really don't think you'll see what we have go away But I'm sure the companies have new coasters up there sleeves.

I agree that the general public would prefer the coasters that many parks are getting today. While the classic coasters like side-friction coasters would be unique, the modern day coasters would be much funner to me.

That'd be nice. There are some great suspended coasters out now like Big Bad Wolf & Top Gun, but I see what you mean. There are also some suspended coasters that're not that great like Iron Dragon. No offense, but a mega suspended coaster just wouldn't look right considering that they can't be taken at a very high speed since its main focus is on swinging riders freely from side-to-side. If it tried to sustain that high amount of speed throughout the course of the ride, the lateral Gs would definitely be out of this world causing riders to have whiplash & blacking out too. Remember that roller coasters nowadays can't have more than 5 Gs in order for them to be labeled off as safe rides.

I would like to see a few more Mega loopers(Viper,GASM,Shockwave)

And I think I would like to see Vekoma attempt a hyper coaster...

I would also like to see a few more Boomerangs and SLCs, because there just isn't enough

If they made mega loopers like colossos(sp) at Thorpe I agree. The three you mentioned I find to be awful.

I have to agree The traditional track Vekoma/ Arrow mega loopers are a git sup par. Intamin , B&M hell I'd take a Company like Mour shorn before another one of those.

as for A vekoma Hyper depends on this new track Style they used on Everest. if it's allot smother the Why not give it a try. but not on the old track system.

Everest was pretty smooth up until the brake run, which seems like they wanted to make sure you knew you rode a Vekoma.

I would also like to see GCI try their hand at recreating the Crystal Beach Cyclone. That would be neat.

Dose it use finds. Mags might help with that. Love the response though. put a smile on my face.

Build the Crystal beach Cyclone in japan them all those thrill seeking Kindergartners can enjoy it. It's amazing how Mush restriction there is n rides in the US compared to every other country yet the US has so many more problems.

I have no idea about what brakes it has nor do I really care to find the answer, however I am glad you found my response to be humorous MRC. I am just one of those enthusiasts who does not really concern themselves with the terchnical aspects of the ride, which is why I am usually pretty silent on the do you know about this threads.

To be honest I am surprised you don't know MRC since that is something I would have figured you picked up somewhere. You are usually very good at that and I often look to your answers on stuff like that when I am curious.

Never saw anything on the brake system. I saw a layout of the ride long before anything was online. it was in a tech magazine which was actually talking about the Software used not the ride itself. but I'll do some digging and see what I can come up with.

After looking Through many pictures, web sites, and A few Videos The ride seems to have standard Fin brakes. Nothing high tech there. So it's the same Fin braking system found on other vekoma coasters.

While this really isn't totally gone yet, to me it looks like in the future the only wood coaster trains will be the Melenium Flyer trains, which are nice, but the 2 bench PTC trains give a much better ride, I think.

Millennium Flyers are only made by GCI for GCI coasters. GCI doesn't plan on making them for coastrs that they do not build.

Please - no more suspended coasters, until they develop the technology to make the cars spin also.

Which brings me to my next point, there arn't that many companies that build wood coasters anymore besides them and like Intamin and Gravity Group, and at the rate they are going I don't think we will be seeing them too much longer...which eventually spells the end of the PTC trains

And I don't think that suspended coasters need to spin to be fun, they just need more built like the Big Bad Wolf and less like XLR-8

some people like suspended coasters, but I don't. I don't even think BBW is very good, but that's just my opinion.

Do you think of a suspended coaster with spinning cars might be fun?

There are still plenty of Companies making week coasters. GG, S&S, M&V, GCII, Kumback Coasters, etc. Then many parks are relocating older coasters. and thousands of trains are already out and operating.

A lot of people are saying that the big overhyped mega-thriller steelies are going out, and medium wooden coasters are coming back in. They're basing this on the fact that Hypersonic XLC is up for sale, SOB's loop gone, and a bunch of other stuff that I wasn't really paying attention to.

I don't really have a stance on this though, I'm just going to wait--time will tell.

you say overhyped mega thriller steelies, then proceed to use a wooden and a launch coaster as an example. I do agree with medium woodies though.

Anyway, back to the actuall subject, i'd also love to see new suspeneders. As far as ultra-classic, I love to ride a Varginia Reel. They'ed do well with the current themepark obsession with spinning coasters.

Somebody should have saved XLR8, and re-routed the layout.

Actually, some park's best ride is their suspended coaster, as scarce as they are. Honestly, Ninja at SFMM was my favorite ride there because its always open, fit in with the themed area, has good themeing and scenery, and it has a wonderful location over the lake. If all of MM's rollercoasters were like Ninja, the park would be a lot better off. I'm sure Hayabusa at Tokyo Summerland was the premire attraction, since it definately dominated the landscape. Vampire at Chessington, Vortex at Canada's Wonderland, Eagle Fortress at Everland, and Top Gun at King's Island is are other examples of at least a top 3 coasters in their parks. Big Bad Wolf would be one, if BGE didn't have some of the best coasters in the world, or so I hear.

I'll also put in a vote for more suspended coasters. I've never been on one unfortunately but they look cool enough. Epecially terrain suspended coasters like BBW where the train barrels down a hillside into out of conrol looking turns. Maybe a Bat reincarnation with the massive swinging and turns...just remember to bank those curves!
