I looked at the Top 1,200 or so rides list, obviously, its not a definitive list. The rides at the top don't have many reviews and some coasters such as Phoenix had much less votes than those of Millenium Force and Apollo's Chariot. That means a lot more people can give Millenium Force 9's which is a terrific score but if you have so many people reviewing it the score HAS to lower overall.

So I made a system.

Over 90 reviews for the coaster are ranked higher.
Over 35 reviews for the ride made the list.
Under 35 reviews don't make the list.
I rated them by 0.5 intervals in score.
Meaning

9.5-10
9-9.5
8.5-9
8-8.5 etc.

All coasters ranked 9.5 and higher and have over 90 votes go to the top of the list. If the score of the coaster is higher but it doesn't have over 90 votes, it ranks lower since theoretically, if more people reviewed the coaster, the score would change (and at scores above 9.5, it'd most likely lower). So, I rank 90+ over 9.5 and then 35+ over 9.5. Then I move to 9.0-9.5 rank the 90+ first then 35+. And so on.

I put the word DEFITIVE! to get attention but honestly, this is my PERSONAL opinion on the overall view of the rankings of people who reviewed coasters on this site. This is my system and I hope you respect it.

I've always been into statistics and list rankings. The way I read rankings is from bottom to top. So, I'd recommend you scroll down and start from 100 and go to #1.

Oh and this is a VERY close list. The scores were extremely close number by number. Meaning the rollercoaster ranked at #20 isn't by any means leaps and bounds higher of a score than the one ranked at #50. Being in the top 60 or so probably qualifies it as a terrific rollercoaster from the USA. I know I'd personally enjoy each and every single ride on the top 100.

This is a ROLLERCOASTER ranking by the way. Not a THRILL RIDE ranking.

That was probably the hardest part about the list, having to click many links to find out if the ride was a rollercoaster or not.

Oh, and some of the newer rides such as Sheikra and Kingda Ka didn't have enough reviews for the coaster yet. Thats why they didn't make the list. Those would probably make the list next year.

There will never be a definative list of rides, especially on this site.

This is the closest you will find

No credit at all? I'm sorry you feel that way. I did say this is my personal statistical list though, not the factual list. I guess you hate me.

No I didn't say that there little buddy. I'm glad that you took the time to do this. Good job. I'm sure it took a lot of time and hard work, but basing stuff off of this site isn't the most accurate thing in the world. Just look through all of the stuff and you will see a lot of crap reviews and rankings.

The poll there is prity good and a good way to see how rides are ranked. but with that poll and this site ratings are bast an participation.

Thow this rewrite is a bit biases. like someone posted newer rides are geting no score or a verry low score aren't getign the ratings they deserve.

This is an interesting write up and I thank you for your time. Though I can't rate MF I personaly find Boulderdash(9) a better ride then Superman (2)

List looks preety good in my opinion.Looked up and down the list and the only weird thing I saw was the Big Shot in Vegas which is a space shot ride at #38, maybe it meant to say the High Roller( the coaster) which is being taken out to make room for a new ride. This ranking is pretty high for that ride, I guess it's due to the amount of people who visit Vegas and it's popularity. In my opinion it should barely make the top 100.

The list is good but I just realized you don't have Kraken on the list which I just don't get, I think it should be ranked in the 30's at least.

Oh yeah.

I've updated my list and just made two minor corrections. Kraken indeed is ranked extremely high. #6 in fact. I also took Big Shot off. If I'm working with that many coaster names, I might make a mistake or 2. So, heres the new minorly adjusted list. Oh, and Wicked Twister was listed on there twice so I took it off.

To update? well, you just press enter a hundred times or so after you take off or put on a coaster. So, just a few minutes.

A unique way to look at things.

Just curious, through this method, what was the highest ranking coaster with under 90 reviews?

Mark's system is a good one with the Olympic type scoring (throwing out the lowest and higest rankings. A better method (but much more complex) method would be to build an algorithim to throw out more of the highest and lowest scores as the total number of reviews for a ride increases.

But then again nothing will ever be perfect or definitive.

If you just count 35 and over, the top 10 would go like this.

1. Boulder Dash
2. Phoenix
3. Millenium Force
4. Shivering Timbers
5. Superman: Ride of Steel
6. Top Thrill Dragster
7. Apollo's Chariot
8. X
9. Ghostrider
10. Cyclone

Thats over 35. If absolutely any number of reviews, then the list would be very different.

Boulder Dash had a score of 9.93. Millenium Force had a score of 9.82. THATS HIGH SCORES. Boulder Dash had 62 reviews. Millenium Force had 263 reviews. Thats quadruple what Boulder Dash had. With such a minor difference in the score and such a major difference in how many people gave a score, Millenium Force definitely deserves a higher spot (MF also has over double the reviews of any coaster in the top 20 except The Hulk). Like if another 200 people decided to review Boulder Dash, unless nearly every single person gives it a 10, the score would lower.

Mark's system does throw out a certain percentage, I believe, and not just X amount.

I've actually been working on a complex algorithm for my site to determine the top rides and I think it may be even "better" in the end.

You should break up the list by wood, steel, inverted, induction, stand up,ect. It's to hard to pick coasters based on reviews because not everyone reviews coasters honestly.

I agree with Millennium Force at 1 but why is TTD @ #3, its too short, it definetely shouldnt even be in the top 10.

great list, i agree with CCTrack, TTD is good but Kingda Ka should be higher up than TTD. Ka is basically a slightly bigger TTD. But overall one of the best lists I've seen.
