Coasters have been evolving quite rapidly for the past decade... what is in store for the common coaster. Or in other words, what will they think of next?

My personal opinino is that they will come up with a design that incorperates a free fall with the common coaster. like you climb the hill, then your car rest on a flat piece of track, then your car just plummets to the ground, stop, move forward onto the stationary track and launch you away. I think that would really add something to the common coaster, don't you?

Well, there is a diving machine that is very close to that.

I would like to see either a stand-up invert, or one where you are lying on your back.

It's quite weird that you said that, because I always thought the same thing. I actually made a K'nex replica of one but it didn't work. B&M could work it out tho.

Well Vekoma has a couple of concepts that sound similair to that, namely the thrill lift and hammerhead stall.

i totally agree, mrceagle, coasters of that nature are actually coming close to the monsters like Millenium Force and Kingda Ka, which is a refreshing concept, IMO.

I hope the retro coasters stay. I think a good ride has been forgotten in the world of biggest and best. However CF and others will only not notice that for so long. You know they read the rankings and how long will they be able to let Avalanche(a ride in the parking lot) beat them.

This Tilt Coaster by Vekoma looks crazy:

What do you guys think of the Arrow Fishhook coaster designs? They tried to put the 510 foot monster on the side of the Stratosphere in Vegas a few years ago but the city rejected it.

I also saw a sketch of the fishhook on the net somewhere on what looked like the Grand Canyon. Maybe one day Arrow, I mean S&S Arrow will be able to make one of these.

The design was jsut a bit impracticle. you have a small train or large care that needs to be pulled back up to the start mark before you can unload and reload. the capacity would have been terable.

Teh tilt coaster looks like fun and the coaster dosn't take up that much more space it would take up less if they used an Elevater lift for the train insted of a standard lift.
