I know this topic is around somewhere, but finding it would be like looking for a needle in a needle stack so I just made a new one.

The question here is NOT what ride/coaster is the most intense or most unpredictable, but what ride/coaster genuinely scared you while on it? Whether it be from it being old and rickety or because your restraint wasn't down far enough, something of that nature.

Heres my #1, the Venture Scat (shameless plug of my site btw, lol.) It's scary because the caged walls that you stand against are tilted back on an angle. Since the entire ride is also on a bit of an angle, there is a point where the angle of the wall and the angle of the ride will meet up and the rider will be laying at a pretty shallow angle. This is the point where you actually slide UP the caged wall a bit from the force of the spin. I doubt you could actually fly out but it's something that I wouldn't want to test by not holding on.

Aw, the Laser isn't that bad! It's a Schwarzkopf, they are quality machines unless a Six Flags park owns them.

I've never been on a ride that i've considered "scary". I guess my scariest would be tower of terror.

I'll be riding Insanity atop Stratosphere Tower in October, since X-Scream was pretty scary I expect the same from Insanity

CC and thinkdiff; I'm talking scary as in "hey, isn't there supposed to be a bolt there?" or "...whats that sound!?" scary.

My scariest ride ever was the "old" SFNE Cyclone.

And the last time I rode the Zoomerang my restraint came almost completely unlocked as it was going up the hill. It's a miracle I didn't fall out.

I know this isn't really what the topic is about. More like really fearing for your life not thrills.

I found Insanity to be less scary than X-Scream personally, but way more satisfying and fun. I guess I felt like it would be easier for something to go wrong on X than Insanity. Hopefully, when you visit, they won't have problems with high winds. At the time I was there, it seemed to be closed a lot. Insanity is on my top 10.

SF owns Mindbender, a few shuttle loops and they used to own Texas Tornado (well, they still do, but I have personal issues with the maintenence staff of SF Marine World as it is), all of which are/were damn good Schwazkopfs.

I still stick to BORG and it's funky restraints which didn't seem like they would be safe, though I was telling Larry that some of those Stratosphere rides may be too scary for me to even try

Thats alright, thats probably what it was meant to be on considering that it's a traveling coaster. Sure it looks trashy but thats beside the point lol.

OK if we are talking missing bolts and stuff I'll choose Nitro at Martins Fantasy Island. It's a pendulum claw type ride and one of the four huge concrete blocks that anchor the ride into the ground kept rising up out of the ground on each swing.

Not talking about missing bolts, I'd have to say TTD.

That's bad. I don't think I'd be going for a second ride on that one!

You weakling. There is nothing scary about the Laser. It has been running like that for a very long time now.

The ride that truely is scary, in a "I shouldn't ride this because it is going to fall apart" sort of way is, without a doubt, is the Williams Grove Cyclone.

At KennyKon last week I saw a guy with a shirt on that actuallt said on the back "I Survived The Williams Grove Cyclone." Now, I know you are wondering, what is so stange about that? Lots of parks have those shirts. Well, thing is, it is not far from the truth. I don't know how this ride passes inspection, it simply amazes me. The stories I can tell, like the one time riding it I actually watched, on the turn around after the lift, a screw that holds the steel rail down pop up out of its hole and then drop back in. The track is crooked in places, rail is missing or has been scavanged from other places, and the trains, oh the trains. Lets just say, it is a good thing they have seatbelts that usually work, because it is rare to find the lapbar working throughout the entire ride.

And just to let you know, personally, I love this ride, but then again, I have a sadistic little streak in me.

^ I had a feeling that you'd mention that. I read somewhere that they don't allow younger people into the very last row of all of the cars.

The only ride that gave me butterflies was Dragster. Frankly, all launched coasters do that the first time I ride them.

A scary looking ride was this almost abandoned looking KMG Spin Out on the side of a street in Coney Island. It was rusting, with paint chipping off of it and all kinds of bird crap looking stalactites hanging from it. It was closed of course, but still, what an eyesore!

The Cyclone is scary in that regard, although I must say that I partially feared for my life riding their steel wildmouse-type coaster. I can't remember the name but it kinda sits alone and dilapidated in a marshy area.

Their steel coaster is actually a Schwarzkopf Wildcat. I don't think it looks that bad at all, and runs, well, OK. It is in an odd location because it isn't really inside the rest of the park. I never really understood what the thought behind putting that and the Heart Breaker back there was.

My scariest ride was the Monster Mouse at Quassy. The seatbelts are in bad condition(ripped), and the supports shake when cars go over them. Quassy takes bad care of the ride, and the cars are falling apart. Last year, a car didn't make it out of the helix, because a wheel flew off, so the next car got stuck high off the ground on the mid-point brake run, so the cars wouldn't crash. They were stuck up there for over 1 hour. They had to get a tall ladder, and they had to climb down. I will never ride it again.

All roller coasters are scary when you ride them the first time in my opinion. but that's why I like to ride them. I'm a adrenaline junkie.

As for the original post... I finally saw one of "those". Actually, a SCAT 2. WOW, thing looked insanely terrifying. I only wish Beech Bend was running it last week...

One day back in the early 1970's I went to the Long Beach Pike, CA to get a tattoo. I told no one that I was going. I then spent the day riding what few rides were still remaining there. One of them was a ride through spook house. Total darkness. Nothing happened. No bells. Whistles. No spooks. NOTHING. As the ride progressed in total darkness, I thought to myself, "What a perfect place to be murdered." I just knew that at any moment some dude was going to spring out of the darkess and slit my throat. That was indeed the most frightning ride ever. Expecting something that never appeared.

^I had similar experiences/thoughts on dark rides at the Jersey Shore, it was just pitch black, nothing going on, no noise except the sounds of other riders in other cars and then there was a random "bump" on the track as if you were running over a body.

I love this topic. For a coaster enthusiast, I'm actually a pretty big chicken, so I have a long list.

The scariest ride I've ever ridden, owing both to its design and to its dilapidated condition, was the Zipper at Coney Island. I was in the pod with my brother when it went into a series of insanely fast forward revolutions. Meanwhile, the ride was shaking and rattling, and the pod was moving side-to-side. The only other time I felt like that was when I was aboard an airplane that had to dump its fuel and make an emergency landing. First came an overwhelming panic, then I became kind of serene and resigned to my fate. In both cases, I found myself reflecting on my life and trying to get right with God. That ride on the Zipper gave me a pretty good indication of how I would face death, and I was happy to find I didn't have too many regrets.

All rides that attain several hundred feet of altitude scare me. The idea of the Stratosphere rides terrifies me. I felt more adrenalized READING biosciking's review of X-Scream than I do RIDING most coasters.

Another ride that was quite scary, at least before launch, was the Slingshot at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights. I could scarcely hide my panic, even though I knew I was being videotaped. The actual launch was pretty amazing. At the highest point I could see to the end of the penninsula. The experience ended up being more beautiful than terrifying, and I'm sorry I don't see these things more often. I'd like to see somebody put one of these on top of the Stratosphere.

For coasters, Cyclops was the scariest. If I had been just a shade more stupid or unlucky, I would have been ejected from the car on the final drop into the trench. That ride can kill you if you're dumb enough. The Jack Rabbit, before the seatbelts were installed, used to have scary air, but at least the car remained in line below you. Cyclops catapaults you out of your seat, then turns sharply to the right while you're still airborne.
