Along with bb_dg and Shortcake, I'm pleased to annouce the addition of BobFunland and adrihna as new mods to TPC.

After recent events with some unsavory characters it became apparent that I simply don't have time to keep with the site like I should so the addition of some new mods should help to keep things running smoothly.

I'm going to be tasking all the mods to start cleaning up a bunch of aspects of the site, including reviews, review comments, and generally all areas of the site in which people post. We're going to be working on a list of items that will help make the site more enjoyable and useful to all members.

I think it's important that the users get a say in somethings they would like to see changed. Please feel free to post your suggestions on what would make TPC a better place in your opinion.

Some things I've suggested include:

Reducing flame wars in review comments.

No more "l33t" or "AOL" speak in reviews. No more comments like it was "wayyyyyyyyyyy" cool, or things like "this wuz the c00l, and gr8, would ride it again and again".

Being more open to new members and keeping the flame wars and going back in forth in the FoN.

Again, I feel it's greatly important you get a say in how the site is run, so please give some feedback on other ideas, fears, or concerns you may have.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the opprotunity to help out with the site. I just hope to do a good job covering for you, and maybe one of these days you will get a break.

I will try my best to help keep the site running clean, and follow all the rules myself of course. Now if we can just get someone to leave permentantly we would be set...

If anyone sees any problems, just let one of us know and we will take a look

Yep great choices on this. As far as site improvements, more varied lists so we can see other things ranked in the top ten. The other choices all look good especially the removal of bogus reviews by one time members.

Thanks guys.. as far as ideas I'm looking more for content type stuff... the kinda of reviews or things you see posted by users you think hurt the site or help the site.. stuff like that that mods could help out with.

The new site, well it's still in the works, but for now I want to get this site back to pleasant place to visit

Great. I do think other then the occasional random new member most of us a pretty pleasant. I have had arguments with people but I don't let that carry into other areas like ride reviews. I don't like when people just respond with random cuss words like they just enjoy seeing a cussword printed on their screen. ie shut up A####e those things.

I made a topic in the beta forum. I was trying to figure out how to use the beta playground. I then read the sticky topic thing and realized that I wasn't supposed to create a thread there. I guess one of you guys can delete it. Sorry about that.
Btw, look at sts' profile. He wrote quite a few horrible reviews. Also, what's up with ilovepugs. I don't remember her doing anything bad.

There are some reviews that need to be removed. Like was said before, if someone writes a 1 and gives like one sentence than that needs to be taken out. The same for a 10. When it is all added up it doesn't give a true representation of how people feel about a ride on the site.

Does this mean that we can go to one of these new mods if we want to submit a news story, or will they pick and choose what ones they want to put in there? The front page is hurting. What kind of areas are they able to keep updated? I see that the ride rankings on the front page were changed. Can they do stuff like that and other things regarding similar things?

There definately are some reviews that need to get yanked.

And yeah, what was up with ilovepugs?

I hope that I can keep fighting with Scott Hot. I'm going to miss that if I can't

Nice job so far guys I log on and it just feels like a new site already.
Oh yeah, just please don't get overly power hungry like some sites, like dorneyonline. I've stoped going to that site altogether.

Mark - two excellent choices (but I hope they don't change/delete all the bad carousel and GASM reviews)

Regarding any banned members, I think Mark has stated before that he doesn't want to comment on specifics of why memebers get banned. I believe it sufficient to start that ilovepugs broke the rules of the site. I have no idea on the specifics of why any individual gets banned but let's respect Mark's privacy and his website.

^Funny Larry, real funny

Sure, go ahead. Once mrc gets a hold of this then we can only imagine how many stories we will get. I posted one to the front page, the only good bit of news I could find for now, just to let y'all know that the news submitter still works. With Kingda Ka, Hydra TR and more opening soon, there is bound to be plenty of news.

We can approve the news, but I will be honest and say that I might not check it as much as the rest of the site, but occasionally (ie once every day or two, hopefully). Also, if you think it's a bad review, just report it (or better yet just comment and say you reported it) and it will be looked at.

For the last comment, I do indeed think that Mark wants to control the arguing/flaming a bit more, and to be nicer to the new members (which I will admit I have gotten on to some new members before as well), Overall, if we all help a bit (namely, keeping the flaming to the FON and be nicer in the reviews comments), we can make the site even better. Mark, is that what you were thinking?

I have what is a really stupid question here. I'm trying to upload pictures, and it is telling me that the pictures exceed the 150KB limit. Is there a way to alter the pics so that they fit? I'm dumb when it comes to pictures. I'm new to the whole concept of digital cameras and stuff. Or is it that the picture uploader isn't working?

Anyway, I realize that the whole flaming thing is kind of out of control. I do realize that the FON is the place for it all too. Sorry if I have offended anyone, eventhough I have meant it in most situations. Well, not the offending thing, just the fighting. I try to be friendly with everyone, but sometimes my opinions seem like they are personal shots. I'll try to tame it down and/or not have a bias against people.

What system do you use, Windows XP maybe? If so, right click on the picture file, select "Open with", and select "Microsoft Office Picture Manager". From there, go to the "Edit Pictures" button in the upper toolbar, and a menu will show up to the left, and click on "Resize", and use the percent button until the biggest dimension is under 800 pixels, because that will probably be small enough. Then click save

It's not just you, its most of us (myself included) and I think we all know that (for the most part) it wasn't personal.

I've been trying to change my name here to simply scott. Scott Hot is a dumb name. I don't know what I was thinking when I created my account. Anyhow, Do I need to email mark. I tried by just updating it on the account page but that didn't work. Am I just stuck with this name?

The flaming really died down... I think it was just due to the election coming up. Everything seems to have calmed down now.

Herc, your files were uploaded (and wow, I was just trying to approve mine and there were tons of 'em from you and others), and Scott, I think Mark may have limited changing the usernames a while back. things became a mess, gov became tacoking... oh, that may have contributed to it

Yea, it's nothing like the election times... but it's still there

Yo, this site is officially whoopin' up now Stuff is getting cleaned up, people are participating, pictures are popping up like crazy. Awesome.

One question, after my pictures are appoved, can I delete them without having them get taken off of the ride page? I have a lot of pictures and I don't want to fill up my space without getting some of them on. I know, another dumb question

Basically, my only requests and suggestions are that the place keeps going like this, and when it gets completely cleaned up, that it stays cleaned up. I'm sure you guys will do a great job. Oh yeah, and a 2004 ride awards. I'm sure I'll have to wait for a 2005 version though.

Yea, but I was uploading some at the same time you were. Chances are it won't be "that" fast usually Again, occasionally you will see blitzes, hopefully on a somewhat regular basis.

Hmmm... well, no. And it's not a dumb question, you may have just saved somebody from wiping out all of their uploaded photos.

That I cannot do, it would take too long to do it by hand, nor would I guarantee it. Mark's been busy, as he said, so I wouldn't know if we'll see '04 ratings, but if news starts flowing maybe the '02 ones will get off the homepage

Yeah, I knew you were doing yours and that is why mine were coming up quick. I was checking yours out at the same time. I was just saying that things are looking up.

Thanks for answering that question about the pictures. I'll put more thought into which ones I'll upload from now on so that the space doesn't fill up too quickly.

That sucks about the TPC awards. Oh well I guess. I can't wait until the 2005 awards. And yes, hopefully the 2002 awards get off there kind of quickly

Hey, all - just dropping in to say that I, as well, will be helping out in whatever way I can. Sounds like Bob is more on top of the photo-uploading concerns, but I'm already on the lookout for bogus reviews. However, keep in mind that I'm doing so carefully - I'll bump a review only if I really feel that it's been posted out of spite, or by confessed fraud (ie the reviewer didn't ride it).

Like Mark and Bob have said, let us know if you all have any further ideas in mind as far as site improvement - I'm honored beyond words to be a part of TPC's maintenance, and want to do the best job I can.

Once again, check sts' profile. I already reported a few of his reviews (TOT) I guess I'm biased because... well, if anyone's seen my sig you know I love that ride. He's given all disney rides a 1. Tower of terror dropped out of the top 25 list thanks to him.

--------------------
I hear people talking about the "Good Old Days" and how they miss them. Well, "The Good Old Days" were never really considered the good old days until they were gone. So, it makes me wonder... is it the good old days now?

Well, I saw that review and in all honesty I don't think it's bogus, unlike the Thunderhead review which stated "OK guys I'll stop with the bogus reviews" (not saying that he stopped, but it's more likely that he did in fat ride it). Does it suck? Yes, it's short and doesn't offer much insight. Will I delete it? No, not now, but I think once we get a clear idea as to what we really want to clean up, then short, crappy reviews like that would probably go. Tower of Terror has almost 200 reviews, so STS's review is thrown out of the equation, and that just made was for another rating, say a 4 or 5, to be included. For now, I'm going to hold back, except in a few rare cases. Sorry, but I wouldn't worry too much because I think eventually it will get cleaned up. I'm kinda torn in the middle to be honest.

Scott, should we delete these reviews as well?:
http://www.themeparkcritic.com/scripts/ReviewComments/ReviewComments.asp?ReviewID=26978&RideID=62

http://www.themeparkcritic.com/scripts/ReviewComments/ReviewComments.asp?ReviewID=17638&RideID=62

http://www.themeparkcritic.com/scripts/ReviewComments/ReviewComments.asp?ReviewID=11753&RideID=62

I look at it this way, until we decide whether or not to allow crappy 10's or crappy-anythings, I won't touch it unless it is admitted to be bogus.

It's not bogus. I'm pretty sure he rode it. He's given tons of disney rides ones and he really is messing up some of my favorite rides. TOT just has a special place in my heart...

Right, that is an argument that just killed your case. It is something that has a "special place in your heart". Did you not just see those reviews that were 10's that had next to no description why? That's it, I'm going in and finding all of the Hercules reviews that are 1's and demanding that they get deleted, because the ride has a special place in my heart.

If they explain why they hated it a one is fine. Hercules deserved it anyhow, it was horrible. 1 1 1 1 1

Right, but the point is you are being bias towards the ride/rides. You are failing to see that there are some reviews that have a 10 with the same amount of nothing as an explanation. I was just trying to point that out. You are being bias. Plus, the fact is, if you get rid of all the bad ones that have 1's then you have to get rid of the bad ones that have 10's. I'm sure you would cry about that just because in your mind the ride deserves all of those 10's eventhough they have 2 words next to them. The way B. Fun and the gang are handling it is the right way. This is why you are not one of the moderators. You just keep coming up with the suggestions and they will tend to it as they see fit, and they are doing the best job of it right now.
